In the last summer of the millennium, my son Louis and I traveled around America with Cris Yarborough, a professional photographer. Most of the photographs in the pages that follow were taken with my small digital camera. Some of these photos were take by Cris and he holds copyright. We spent three months 'on the road' and traveled about 16,000 miles. I wrote a daily journal and uploaded images and text to a web site each evening. About 300 people came along for the ride through that web site. We landed in New York on the 20th of June. On the 7th of August I wrote _The sheer physical beauty of the country is close to overwhelming. From the undulating woodlands of Vermont to the arid sun scorched plateau of southwest Texas, nature, in all its manifestations, displays itself with a grandeur that's simply heartrending. Looking back, I wouldn't change those words. Images and extracts from the text are displayed in the pages that follow.
